9. Tax-Exempt Status Disclosure

Friends of James is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

10. Charitable Purpose

The purposes of the Corporation, as set forth in the Articles of Incorporation, are exclusively charitable, educational, or religious, within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, or the corresponding provision of any future Federal tax law (“Section 501(c)(3)”). In furtherance of such purposes, the Corporation shall have the same powers as an individual to do all things necessary or convenient to carry out the purposes, as set forth in the Articles of Incorporation and these Bylaws. 


The specific purposes of the Corporation are to increase awareness of Angelman Syndrome, fund research to advance therapies for treating Angelman Syndrome and to support local initiatives serving people with special needs.

11. Donation Policy

Friends of James Inc is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and your donation is deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please keep your email donation receipt as your official record. We will send it to you upon successful completion of your donation. 

 

12. Political Activity Disclaimer

Friends of James does not participate in political campaign activities for or against any candidates, nor does it engage in substantial lobbying efforts.

13. Financial Transparency

As a 501(c)(3) organization, our financial information, including annual reports and Form 990, is available for public inspection upon request.

14. Use of Funds

All funds received by Friends of James are used exclusively for the advancement of our charitable mission and not for the benefit of any private individual or shareholder.

15. Dissolution Clause

In the event of dissolution, all remaining assets of Friends of James will be distributed to other qualified 501(c)(3) organizations or for public purposes, in accordance with IRS regulations.

16. Refunds

Friends of James is committed to transparency and fairness in our financial practices. We offer refunds under the following conditions:

16.1 Donation Refunds
  • Donors may request a refund for any online donation made through our website at any time.

  • To request a refund, please contact us at support@friendsofjames.org with your name, donation date, and amount.

  • Refunds will be processed to the original payment method used for the donation.

  • Please note that refunded donations will not be eligible for tax deduction purposes.

 
16.2 Event Ticket Refunds
  • Purchasers may request a refund for any ticketed event bought through our website, provided the event has not yet occurred.

  • To request a refund for an event ticket, please contact us at support@friendsofjames.org with your name, ticket purchase date, event name, and ticket quantity.

  • Refunds will be processed to the original payment method used for the ticket purchase.

  • Refund requests must be made at least 7 days before the event date to ensure processing.

  • Once an event has occurred, tickets are non-refundable.

16.3 Processing of Refunds
  • We aim to process all refund requests within 7 business days of receiving the request.

  • Please allow 4-5 business days for the refund to appear on your account statement, depending on your financial institution.

16.4 Exceptions
  • In the event of unforeseen circumstances or errors on our part, we reserve the right to issue refunds at our discretion, even if the above conditions are not met.

  • For any disputes or special circumstances regarding refunds, please contact us directly at support@friendsofjames.org.
